The meeting started with our speaker, Melissa Baten Caswell trustee of PAUSD Board, speaking on "Funding Palo Alto Schools in Tough Times", a timely subject since the recent school parcel tax passed handily.

THE BUSINESS MEETING

The business meeting began with Nan Prince, Education Chair, presenting awards to two Palo Alto High School juniors for the essay contest.

  • First prize ($500 cash and a yearlong League membership) to Samara Trilling, who is the editor of the school newspaper, the Paly Voice. Click here to access her essay, "Truth, Justice, and the Media's Sway"
  • Second prize ($300 cash and a yearlong League membership) to Alexandra Messick-Kopel, who is the editor of Verde, another school paper. Click here to access her essay, "Democracy in America: how technology has impacted the average voter"
