California Statewide Direct Primary Election, June 8, 2010

In the June 8, 2010 Statewide Primary Election, voters will choose which candidates they want to vote in the November General Election. Voters will be asked which candidates they want to represent their political party for each partisan elected office (Governor, Lt. Governor, U.S. Senator, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Insurance Commissioner. State Superintendent of Public Instruction is a non-partisan office. Voters who are not registered in a political party (Decline to State) may request a Democrat or Republican ballot.

Santa Clara County voters will also find candidates for Superior Court Judge, Santa Clara County District Attorney and Santa Clara County Sheriff on their ballot. You may see online broadcasts of Candidates Forums for the Santa Clara County Judgeship, Sheriff and District Attorney races at the Media Center Web site

A number of other cities and counties in the county are conducting elections on offices and ballot measures for this election. Voters in Palo Alto and Stanford do not have any ballot measures or candidates in this election.

Key Dates:

  • May 24, 2010 deadline to register for the June 8 election
  • June 1, 2010 last day to request a mail (absentee) ballot from the Registrar of Voters
  • June 8, 2010 Election day, polls open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Mail ballots must be received by the Registrar of Voters by June 8, 2010, 8 p.m. You may hand in your mail ballot at any Santa Clara County polling place if you're registered in Santa Clara County.
